Marvell Introduces Industry’s Low-Power Automotive Ethernet PHY

BEIJING, Feb. 28, 2020 — Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) today announced the second-generation 88Q1110/88Q1111 100BASE-T1 Automotive Ethernet PHY with the industry’s lowest power consumption. Today’s connected cars more than ever require high-speed in-vehicle data applications, requiring innovative solutions to efficiently transmit data over the vehicle network. As a leader in networking semiconductor solutions, Marvell offers a complete line of automotive-grade switch, PHY and controller solutions that can be used in multiple in-vehicle areas such as infotainment, gateways and ADAS. Marvell’s second-generation 100BASE-T1 PHY broadens the 100Mbps to multigigabit physical layer transceiver product line and supports a reliable, standards-based platform optimized for data-intensive applications.

Amir Bar-Niv, vice president of marketing for Marvell’s automotive business unit, said: “Marvell’s new automotive Ethernet PHY product family provides excellent performance in high-noise environments, exceeds standard in-vehicle electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance, and provides extremely low power consumption. The previous generation’s 100BASE-T1 PHY is pin-compatible, making the new low-power PHY the best choice for low-power deployments in applications such as telematics, instrument cluster, ADAS, and audio amplifiers.”

In addition to low power consumption, the second-generation PHY leverages existing designs to ensure pin compatibility with previous-generation products already in production. It also supports OPEN Alliance TC10 sleep mode, which supports common wake and sleep signals to save power when not in use.

Bar-Niv also noted: “As the pace of connected car development accelerates, more and more technologies are being designed for use in the car to securely connect the multiple endpoints needed to transmit all data, while protecting the in-vehicle Ethernet-based infrastructure in the car. Data streams are protected from malicious attacks or compromises, and 100BASE-T1 PHY products will become increasingly important in Ethernet-based in-vehicle networks.”
