SANTA CLARA, Calif. (July 6, 2021) – Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) today introduced the new OCTEON® 10 data processor for demanding applications in 5G, cloud, carrier and enterprise centers Accelerates multiple security, networking, and storage workloads in your application environment. Increasing workloads are moving to the cloud, security requirements are becoming more complex, and edge devices are increasing, accelerating the need for data-centric computing power. By combining computing power with best-in-class hardware accelerators, the Marvell OCTEON 10 data processor delivers significant total cost of ownership advantages and holds several industry firsts. Compared with previous generations of OCTEON, this new solution provides 3 times the performance and reduces power consumption by 50%. It is the first solution designed on the 5nm process to integrate the Arm® Neoverse™ N2 core. An inline artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) hardware acceleration solution, the first solution to integrate a 1TB switch and the first to integrate a vector packet processing (VPP) hardware accelerator.
“To meet and exceed the data processing demands of growing networking, storage and security workloads, Marvell is focused on significant data processor innovations in computing power, hardware accelerators and high-speed I/O ports,” said Marvell’s Infrastructure Processors business unit Vice President John Sakamoto said, “OCTEON 10 brings leading computing power to support more than 400G network and security workloads, and integrates leading I/O ports including DDR5 and PCIe 5.0.”
“We congratulate Marvell on the launch of the industry-leading OCTEON 10 data processor series. Samsung, working closely with industry leaders such as Marvell, has been providing a variety of robust 5G solutions to meet the needs of different mobile operators,” said Vice President, Network Business, Samsung Electronics Sung-Won Lee said. “Together with our Samsung ecosystem partners, we will continue to develop and advance mobile technologies to drive the next phase of 5G and enhance the mobile experience.”
“Marvell’s OCTEON 10 data processor provides enhanced packet processing capabilities for parsing, classification, and inline IPSec,” said Daniel Newman, founding partner at Futurum Research. “Marvell’s OCTEON 10 data processor is exciting because it integrates Innovative hardware accelerators for inline machine learning, vector packet processing, and 1TB switches.”
“Today’s processing of the massive amounts of data from the cloud to the edge devices requires a lot of computing power,” said Chris Bergey, senior vice president and general manager of Arm’s infrastructure business line. “The combination of cutting-edge 5nm technology, Neoverse N2 cores and OCTEON 10 will Enables Marvell to take on complex workloads and demonstrate the power of its data processors.”
Unlike other data processor solutions that are limited to data center use cases, Marvell OCTEON 10 is scalable to serve the most demanding hyperscale cloud workloads, carrier and enterprise data centers, 5G wireless transport, SD-WAN, Even fanless network edge boxes. To deliver best-in-class power and performance in these applications, each OCTEON 10 unit includes the best combination of computing power, hardware acceleration, datapath bandwidth and industry-leading I/O ports including PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 .
The OCTEON 10 Series SDK is an open platform using the Arm ecosystem. The software development kit includes networking, security and storage stacks, comprehensive DPDK and VPP extensions, and virtualization and container support.
OCTEON 10 will be available in the second half of 2021, with another product update to follow shortly thereafter. For more information, visit https://www.marvell.com/products/data-processing-units.html.
